The Children of Tibet
I will never forget the children in 1998 when I went to Tibet. Or the brave little girl who showed me her necklace with an image of the Dalai Lama. The image of HH was very old, when he was young, I imagine a family member gave this to her.
Images of the Dalai Lama are illegal in Tibet. The Tibetans have been marginalized and very poor and reduced to beggars.
Some say former President Nixon will be remembered for opening up relations with China. I think Nixon will be remembered in the full light of history as the President who sold the US out to China. He especially ended any chance of real pressure on China over Tibet.
The Chinese sadly only respect power. The CIA backed the Tibetans against the Chinese in the '50s, but we abandoned the Tibetans.
Everything now is simply about money, most of which seems to be flowing to China, not the US. We used to build things in this country. Now almost anything you buy says Made in China. And the products are just junk, not made to stand the test of time.
But the children I saw in Tibet., especially this one little girl, her face tells the real story. The Chinese have just exploited Tibet in every way possible. And they have done everything they can to crush Tibetan culture. The Chinese government is doing the same thing worldwide, from Africa to South America and beyond.
The Chinese government will not allow Tibetan children to be educated in Tibetan schools.
When you kill the education of a culture, that is the final death blow.
Why are we so blind to the suffering of children across the world?
What does this say about the human species?
I pray for the children of Tibet and all children worldwide who are innocent casualties caught in "adults" games of power and war.
