Beneath the Sea
Beneath the Sea
***
Old Man
Going under
Ain't no wonder
waves crashing
Undertow
Feel the flow
Sand pulls
Falling
Taste salt
Looking up
Going down
Arms flail
All around
Dark water
No sorrow
Peace wins
No sound
No worries
Relax
Let go
Let go
No cares
Breathe
Swallow
Follow
Final
Mystery
Eyes open
Stare
Blankly
Close
Happy
Welcome
You are
Finally
Home
***
Nothing written
Nothing said
You arrived
Finally Home
One last wave
Crashing soul
No goodbye
Nothing
Undone
Beneath
Setting
Sun
***
Existence
Non-existence
Same
So tired
Game's up
Last bet
Cards
Played
Nothing
Left to
Say
****
Home
Dreaming
Beneath
Dark
Seas
***
Seagulls saw the
Old Man
In seafoam
Appearing
Briefly
***
Setting sun
Disappearing
Beneath
Peaceful
Seas
Free

Written by David Penn Trinley Arndt in 1993 in South America. I met an old man on a beach. His eyes radiated peace. He said to me, "My life is complete," with a smile and wise twinkle in his eyes.
I watched the old man go out to sea in a fishing boat. He waved. I waved back and smiled, watching him as the wind blew in my face.
As the sun set I realized it was a full moon. I waited for the old man, thinking he would return. The old man never returned. His boat was found but not his body. I felt an odd feeling of peace and was not sad.
I then wrote down the words above. I had forgotten the old man until today when I found the poem rolled up in a conch shell.
It seems like a good day to share.
