Guthrie Jones
You were a happy man
You were a man with a future
We looked up to you
You had a plan
Guthrie Jones
Your bearded face
Held High
Confidence
In your eyes
Guthrie Jones
You had an answer
For every question
Your life had purpose
Direction
Guthrie Jones
Well, you were a
Working man
You inspired
Goodness
Then Uncle Sam
called you to war
What was it for?
You saw many die
Beneath Iraqi Skies
Pointless insanity
Guthrie Jones now
Your eyes are lifeless
Your ghost vanished
Love has faded away
Collecting bottles for food
Homeless asleep in your waste
People step over you laughing
Your sacrifice forgotten
Guthrie Jones
Lost man who lives
under Iraqi skies
The war continues
Every day for Guthrie
Take the time and look
See the battles rage still
Reflected in his eyes
No winners
Senseless
Wars
Can we learn to love?
Can we be compassionate?
Can we end the killing
End destroying lives
Beneath foreign skies?
