We Never Knew Each Other

We Never Knew Each Other

***

Did you ever even know me
Did you even care
Do you hear me
When you look at me
With eyes so fair

You didn't say you had a husband
Didn't say you were wanted by the law
Didn't say you killed your children
Then you killed your dog

Oh, gonna pull down the nighttime sky
Looking around. See what's there
Oh, I'm walking downtown
Walking streets lost somewhere

Walking
I see people
Where I, once saw you
Well, I look them in the eye
Never knew them
Never knew you

Went into work.
Couldn't remember my job
The boss, he took the keys
Said, boy, you didn't last long

Then my girlfriend left me
For another girl
I got so confused
My head went into whirl

I've been around for a little while
A bunch of decades or so
All the things I've seen in the world
Don't add up to all that much now

Maybe we don't need to go anywhere
Maybe we need to put down our cell phones
Maybe we need to talk to each other face-to-face
Maybe I need to look into your eyes.

What are you doing with me
If you have a husband
I'm not going to fall for that
I've been down that path before
My head got hit with a baseball bat

So, now I go forward on my own.
I soar into the sky
I fly into my arms
And Say Goodbye

When I met you woman
Thought you were perfect
Then you killed my houseplants
Poisoned my fish took my dog
You ran away

I found myself caught up.
For nearly four years.
You ripped my heart right out
Then you went away with her

All the bloody baggage of the past
Rotten and decaying.
I'm gonna let go of it now.
Going to walk forward all the way
Until that woman vanishes
We never knew each other
We are gonna vanish too
