Hello mountain, my old friend.

Hello Mountain, My Old Friend

***

I met you 30 years ago now.

The trees have grown, but you peak out against the clouds and sky.

You bring me down to earth when I fly too close to the sun.

You lift me from the darkness, letting me see clearly in all directions.

I am sorry I take you for granted at times, so lost in my mind.

You are so patient.

You were here when the great glaciers melted. That's when you were young.

Now you are among the oldest mountains in the US.

Time has made your lines soft and gentle.

You overlook us in this valley, protect us.

You will still be here long after we have faded.

Holding the memories of all time.

Keeping still.
